I know how you feel. I'm actually reading LJ instead of writing my personal statement for my grad school applications RIGHT NOW! I have one paragraph left to go, but it's the hard one. =(
Oh and I found that having a successful applicant's personal statement to refer to (Shoshe's in my case) makes you feel like less of a jerk and gives a good idea of what people expect from a good statement. See if you can find anyone that has one lying around.
Thanks for the tip! I couldn't find anyone I knew who'd done exactly this type of thing, but enough vaguely equivalent stuff was floating around on the internet to be of help.
