Do something.
There's an anti-racism rally on at Town Hall at 1pm on Sunday. Most of you have already heard, but I want to make sure the word gets out to absolutely everyone. It's really important that you come. If there aren't a whole lot more people there than were at that beach last Sunday, I don't know if I'll ever be able to hold my head up again.
I've heard a lot of people over the last year or so say that protests don't do any good, and I just want to remind them that this is different. This is not about convincing some politician to change. It's not about government or policy. It's about people and the way they act. Enough people showing up will be a success in itself, because people who see or hear about it will know, just from that, that this city, and this country, aren't completely fucked. If one person feels that bit more welcome and that much less alienated, it will be worth the everyone's time. Fingers crossed, it will make a bigger difference than that.
It won't fix any social problems in the shire, but it will show everyone that redneck is not the dominant culture here.
And if you come, I'll buy you a drink for being a legend.
(or something else, if you don't drink)
