An update, because sometimes I do that. Sometimes.

Our two house complex-thing is for once a hive of activity and gaming and talking and eating and casual everyday stuff with a constant drift of lovely people between the two residences. It makes me content. And for some obscure reason, it makes me look forward to the coming spring and summer. Last night was some beer-lariousness, although for others it was other-stuff-lariousness or nothing-at-all-lariousness, which is all good and applaudable. There were people, they were nice, I can't see a down side. Today, we hung out, and also played Idealogy. People are currently playing Monsters menace America.

My chocolate supremacy continues! I had a chocolate fucking sandwich and a giant bowl of coffee for breakfast. I mean lunch. It was 3pm. Whatever.

Happy birthday to [livejournal.com profile] dnahum for Tuesday (tuesday?). Sorry I couldn't come to the party; I have a puffy shirt and everything. Drat.

Yesterday I fronted up to Jackson's rare guitars and asked to see their best guitars under $2000 (which narrows it down a lot in that shop). The cute girl who served me was amazingly helpful and friendly, and I spent a couple of hours in the amp room trying stuff out. Of what they had there, I've narrowed it down to a choice between a pretty Gibson Les Paul Studio, and a '99 Double Fat Strat, which is like a strat but with two humbuckers instead of three weedy lame single-coils. The Gibson has a better "rock" sound, but I like the feel of the strat better, and it seemed to sound a bit better with most stuff I played on it, including slide. The Gibson was totally useless for slide stuff. I guess I could mess around with the action, but they're made to have a low action. Of course, there are other guitar shops. Other, cheaper guitar shops. I think I might be getting a crush on that Strat though.

Talecrafter has gone away. I said goodbye to him. I hope everything goes well over there.

I saw a movie about Balinese boys picking up western women for $$$. The talented film maker spilled all the dirt to us on stuff that people wouldn't say on camera.

Some people got married. Hooray!

Had infection control training at work. Turns out that the NSW food Authority are crazy nazis. Are you a long day care center or aged home? If so, I hope you've washed all of your fruit and vegetables in BLEACH, because it's a legal requirement that you do.

Watched "Happy Together" with Tull and a house full of awesome. The film was pretty, sometimes touching, but very meandering. The company it was watched in was very entertaining.

I was a last minute ring in for Percy's vampire freeform. I acheived none of my major goals, but was saved at the end by a big fight scene which seemed to stop most people from acheiving their goals. It was very well put together for a first freeform, which doesn't surprise me given its creator, and I also think a freeform is a great way to introduce a setting, because a)it gets lots of people interested, and b)a whole bunch of wacky shit will come of it that the GM and half the players had no idea was coming, thus giving people the feel of a more personal stake* in the world.

*Shutup.

Ooooh! Fender Strats! *drools* I have one (only single coils, because I have other guitars with humbuckers, and I like the single coil sound of a Strat), and it's sooo wonderful. Definitely go for the strat if you're playing slide with it.
Venue are always good, if you wanted a new one, and you can bargain them down better than any other place.
If you're in love with that one though...

You must come to the Halloween party and wear your puffy shirt then!

You bastards who can afford guitars, holy shit. My dad finally managed to afford a strat and a fender bass... and that was because a rock star got us a discount. Just in time for me to move out of home. GOD DAMN.

[identity profile] snuffytherabbit.livejournal.com 2005-09-18 12:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I got the Fender Strat for my 21st, because I'd been drooling over them for years, and I have been (though am not now) good enough to deserve one. I had to pay a bit of the money, and my Poppa put in some money too. We got it for under $2000.
My other guitars were either very cheap, or in the case of Mr F-100, it cost almost a year's allowance. Worth it though.
I'd like a Fender bass, but there's nothing wrong with my imitation one, except the pick-ups, so I'll just replace the pick-ups.
Dnahum's father has lots of guitars - Fender, Gibson, and other imitations that he has custom made. And he's obsessed with (Fender) vintage amps. The first time I met him he told me that my parents 'should' really invest in a as they it'd "only" cost $1500 or so! LOL! It's a nice idea...

Yeah, for some reason I've always had incredible problems getting my hands on an electric guitar. Ah well.

[identity profile] snuffytherabbit.livejournal.com 2005-09-18 12:44 pm (UTC)(link)
You can get a good one for a low price. Dnahum would recommend Ibanez, but I'm more interested in Fender and Gibson (Gibson is a brand I can only dream about. So damn expensive!). Ibanez do make good guitars that are extremely reasonably priced.
For me, I just *have* to have guitars. My life just wouldn't mean much without them. When you feel that you can not go on without one, then you'll get one. As for violins, I've had to actually make a date to go and get one, because I'm not *as* desperate (still, I've always wanted one). :)

[identity profile] roseapparatus.livejournal.com 2005-09-18 12:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, now you've got me thinking (and freaking) about all kinds of stuff. It may surface in a post, it may not... priorities and self-belief are interesting things that confound me.

What's an f-100?

I had a strat 70s on loan from my uncle for a couple of years, which was beautiful, but I had to give that back. The only electric I currently own is a horrible piece of korean crap strat copy which just sounds terrible.

My other option with regards to a new one, which would be something of a gamble, would be to ask my brother to make me one for the cost of materials. The only thing he's made before is a bass, which was pretty good, but not the best ever. So I would spend money and the result might be brilliant or it might be terrible. On the other hand, it would be a one of a kind axe custom made just for me, which is pretty cool.

An F-100 is a wonderful guitar. It's by ESP. Here's the link to the other F-series guitars (you can't get the F-100 anymore. There's an F-100fm which is something newer and cheaper, and all I know is that it ain't quite the same as an F-100).
http://www.espguitars.com/guitars_f.htm
They sell them at Venue.

That sounds cool. But yeah, there is a risk. And if you know that there's a guitar out there that is really good, you might regret not buying it. It was love at first site with Mr F-100, and I *knew* I had to have it, and I did, and it was a match made in heaven. Think about whether or not you might come to really regret not getting that Strat at Jacksons, and then decide.

[identity profile] snuffytherabbit.livejournal.com 2005-09-18 04:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Ohh... when I look at the ESP site and I see who else plays F-series guitars, it's a sad, sad thing. So just for the record, I do not consider it to be a Nu-Metal guitar. In fact, I don't even play Metal on it anymore. As far as I'm concerned, F-100s are wonderful rock guitars. They are designed for fast lead stuff, and they play oh-so well. :)
Gosh, I almost sound like I'm trying to sell their guitars! Go and get that Strat - an F-100 is not good for slide. I speak from experience - enduring a guitar course playing Hawaiian stuff was not made easy by the fact that the action is so low that THE SLIDE WON'T SLIDE! :P

As I said to the person in the store, what I basically want is a magical guitar that can sound like anything. Curses.

I will come to your halloween party. I may wear something scarier than a puffy shirt.

[identity profile] snuffytherabbit.livejournal.com 2005-09-18 04:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Groovy! Puffy shirts *can* be scary... But if you can be scarier, then why not? *grins*

Err, I realise it was a figure of speech, but uh, they're not Nazis. Unless you meant that they are trying to poison people with bleach. And even then it's a real stretch...

[identity profile] puddlesofun.livejournal.com 2005-09-18 02:06 pm (UTC)(link)
It was indeed a figure of speech. It's just the stupid over-regulation (and the uniforms).

[identity profile] roseapparatus.livejournal.com 2005-09-18 03:07 pm (UTC)(link)
It's just worse than a faux pas. It's just offensive.

Anyway, not having a go, just saying... it's not really something to be bandied about lightly IMO.

[identity profile] puddlesofun.livejournal.com 2005-09-18 03:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Were you horribly offended by the soup-nazi episode of Seinfeld?

[identity profile] roseapparatus.livejournal.com 2005-09-18 03:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I didn't say I was horribly offended by your use. Some might be. I think the same of the Seinfeld misuse. It's not necessary and it's not correct to use Nazi that way. You're a writer, delve into that vocabulary of yours. As I said, not looking for an argument.

[identity profile] puddlesofun.livejournal.com 2005-09-18 02:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Hey, weren't you meant to be over here some time this weekend?

[identity profile] roseapparatus.livejournal.com 2005-09-18 02:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, but drinking scotch straight generally puts you in a place where you don't get out of your pjs all of the following day. Party mood touched base with me last night, after a very long absence.

[identity profile] puddlesofun.livejournal.com 2005-09-18 02:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Ouch. And yay!

(ouch for the day after, yay for the party mood)
