I'm trying to avoid too much internet (in November there will be no internet! and no tv!), but here I am wasting time because the characters for my upcoming detective/fantasy/high school drama/horror/magical realist novel are refusing to fix themselves. The detective, for instance, is currently little more than a detective. And you need more than that. How to make him interesting...
