All in all, my Mum's 50th Birthday party went pretty well, despite the trepidation I had about performing. Mum wanted all four of her children to perform together on her birthday. David is a talented pianist and bassplayer. I am a quite competent guitar player. Nick can play flute and piano. None of us are really singers. So, naturally we chose as our piece "Just Pretend" by The Bens, which has simple playing but a 3 part vocal harmony.
Doh.
But I think we pulled it off without embarrassing ourselves. And then Laila came and jammed with us on "Summertime", which was cool, cos that woman has an awesome voice.
The party itself was great. It was held at Summer Hill community center and there were about 70 guests. Lots of cousins and family friends, so I got to find out who's 18 soon, who has a new girlfriend, who's touring with the SBS orchestra in Russia next year, who has a new job, who knows too much about the sleeper hold (yep, one of my cousins is a bouncer), who squeals like a baby when you drop ice down their back (heh heh), who's back from overseas, who has a new tattoo, who was looking for a place and found one, who is a prominent member of a viola de gamba soc, and who's changed their course from graphic art to music. My mum had a great time, and to top it all off, there's food left.
Aww yeah.
